Question 1 - You may know aroniaberries by a more common name: "chokeberries."

Question 2 - The aroniaberry bush is native to North America. Native Americans used the berries for medicinal purposes, dyes for clothing, and for preserving meats and other foods.

Question 3 - The aroniaberry is receiving a lot of attention because of recent scientific studies. These studies have shown that aroniaberries have tremendous concentrations of flavonoids, polyphenols, anthocyanins, and antioxidants. These purple berries offer the most promising properties for human health. People are now trying to add more antioxidants to their diets, and aroniaberries offer the highest concentration. Of all the antioxidant studies, the aroniaberry was shown to have the highest antioxidant levels by a wide margin.

Question 4 - U.S.D.A researchers have said that aroniaberries have the highest antioxidant activity of all berries. Aroniaberries have been proven to: 1. improve circulation; 2. strengthen blood vessels; 3. suppress viruses; 4. act an an anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-carcinogenic within the human body. Juice from the aroniaberry prevents the formation of free radicals. Free radicals cause chronic diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular ailments.

Question 5 - New research has shown that aroniaberries: 1. May offer protection for human blood vessels; 2. Contains rich amounts of flavonoids, polyphenols, anthocyyanis and powerful anti-oxidents; 3. Are a strong relaxing agent of the smooth muscle found in arteries; 4. Play a major role in keeping the blood pressure from becoming dangerously high; 5. Help prevent spasms in blood vessels; 6. Inhibit the development of blood clots and the early process of atherosclerosis; 7. Are very potent in helping relax the arteries, aiding blood flow, and protecting the coronary arteries from oxidant injury. 8. Are five to ten times more potent than cranberries for urinary tract health.

Question 6 - There are a number of research centers, mostly universities, that are currently studying aroniaberries: 1. Washington State University; 2. United States Department of Agriculture, Agriculture Research Service; 3. California Rare Fruit Growers, Golden Gate Chapter; 4. North Willamette Research and Extension Center in Aurora, Oregon; 5. Closer to home would be the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. There are quite a number of research centers throughout the United States and throughout the world that are performing ongoing studies of the benefits of the aroniaberry. Question 7 - Aroniaberries make great smoothies. Just add them to any juices, fruits, or your favorite yogurt. They can be put on cold or hot cereal, or added to pancake batter.
