Aroniaberry Apple Pie Hot Dogs

We were inspired to make Guy Fieri's Apple Pie Hot Dog recipe even more All American by adding Superberries Aroniaberries to the mix.  Aroniaberries are native to North America and have been used for centuries for health and wellness purposes as well as in jellies, jams, and baking. We think the mayor of Flavortown would be proud of our remake of his recipe.

Aronia Apple Pie Hot Dogs

Premade Pie Dough

2 Cups of Chunky Aroniaberry Apple Sauce (see recipe below)

½ Cup of Bacon Jam

6-8 All Beef Hot Dogs

4 Tbsp Brown Sugar

1 Egg, Beaten

Aroniaberry Mustard (see recipe below)

Cut pie dough into strips 3 inches wide.  Spread 2 tablespoons of Chunky Aroniaberry Apple Sauce about 2 inches from the edge of the pie dough.  Spread a tablespoon of the Bacon Jam on top.  Place hot dog about ½ inch from the edge of the dough in the center of the sauce and jam. Egg wash the edges of the pie crust.  Fold the dough over on the hot dog leaving the top of the hot dog uncovered.  Crimp the edges of the dough with a fork to seal.  Egg wash the top of the dough covering the hot dog.  Sprinkle with brown sugar and bacon jam.  Bake in the oven at 350° F for 18-20 minutes until golden.  Remove from oven.  Drizzle with Aroniaberry mustard and serve.

Bacon Jam

1 ½ Cups of Bacon Bits

2 Tbsp Honey

1 Tbsp Brown Sugar

2 Tsp Apple Cider Vinegar

Pinch Ground Black Pepper

In a non-stick pan heat Bacon Bits, Honey, Brown Sugar, Apple Cider Vinegar and Pepper.  Simmer until Bacon has a jam consistency. Remove

Chunky Aronia Apple Sauce

1/3 Cup Superberries Frozen Aroniaberries

4 Cups Apples cut into small cubes

1/3 Cup Sugar

2 Tbsp Lemon Juice

1/2 Tsp Cinnamon

In a 2-quart saucepan, combine all ingredients.  Cook over medium heat until mixture boils.  Reduce heat so mixture just simmers, cover.  Cook 15 minutes, remove cover, and stir.  Continue cooking 5 to 10 minutes or until apples are tender and mixture thickens slightly, stirring occasionally.

Aroniaberry Mustard

1 Tbsp Aroniaberry Concentrate

1 Cup Yellow mustard

Stir together mustard and Aroniaberry Concentrate until the juice has been thoroughly mixed into the mustard.
